UDF Skywalker

I wrote about the Hubble Deep Field Project a while back.
The Hubble Telescope was aimed at a featureless point in the sky and its shutter was opened to gain the maximum amount of light possible. The telescope stayed focused on the same point in the sky gathering a single image for about a month.
The result was over 10,000 galaxies observed.
In a point in the sky about 1/20 of the area of a full moon.
NOW do you feel the immensity of the universe?

Today’s FamilyFirst pick is called UDF Skywalker. It’s an enhanced view of the Deep Field image that you can drag a magnifier around on to see details of the galaxies.
I don’t know how many taxpayer dollars the Hubble Telescope cost, but I guarantee you it was worth every penny.
Enjoy an amazing celestial show.
